About J&R Contracting Services

J&R Contracting, Inc. can trace its roots, like so many other small businesses in America, to a need in a marketplace. Owner and founder, Rick Cartwright, discovered in 1985 that there was a great need for an experienced and honorable company that had Christian values that would help customers with septic installations and repairs, paving and sidewalk repairs and installations, excavation, demolition, and landscaping.

Rick, originally hailing from the Rochester area, relocated to the Hudson Valley in the early 1980s where he was working in the field. Before long he recognized that both residential and commercial property owners could use his services and expertise, and he jumped at the opportunity to start his own business and help those customers. Since then his business has grown, and he proudly says that J&R Contracting, Inc. is a family-owned and run business that has been servicing Hudson Valley customers for almost 40 years – that includes the counties of Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Rensselaer, and Ulster.

When Rick started out, a lot of his business focused on residential properties, doing septic work as well as paving and landscaping excavation. But soon after, he began offering septic services, J&R was contracted by Verizon to handle projects such as manhole cover restoration and various cable in Columbia, Greene and Dutchess Counties. This, at the time, expanded J&R’s commercial repertoire, which has continued to grow since that day.

Due to J&R’s extensive experience in commercial water and sewer work, they have done a lot of work for the City of Hudson and the Town of Greenport because J&R not only has extensive experience but is also one of only five businesses accredited to work in the field in the region.

As for the residential side of their business, it has continued to grow steadily. They still focus on landscape excavation, paving installation and repairs, driveway installation and repairs, septic installation and repairs, and then later added demolition services – to name a few of their many services.

Over the years, a lot of folks moved to the region and purchased properties that they began renovating to make into their forever homes. J&R has been working alongside many of those new homeowners, as well as local families and customers, to help them with various updates to their homes, whether they be issues with the house’s waterlines or septic systems for a lot of older homes, or for new construction properties, helping those homeowners install new septic systems, or with their construction excavation needs. Likewise, many property owners have a need for demolition work due to things such as fire damage or simply wanting to tear down a structure (like a barn or garage), and J&R has many years of experience and know-how when it comes to all aspects of demolition including all applicable accreditations.

J&R Contracting, Inc. has proudly spent almost 40 years helping its friends and neighbors in the Hudson Valley with their various projects and needs, and Rich and his entire team look forward to spending many more years doing just that.
